New Twitter Ads

Twitter logoTwitter Ads is an ideal way to grow a brand’s presence on the social network. This is done through targeting existing potential customers by location and interests as well as amplifying messages and promotions.

In early July, Twitter had announced that they will be experimenting with a way to make these ads more useful to users. Instead of showing more ads, people online will be seeing better ones than before.

According to Twitter’s blog:

“How does this work? Let’s say a local florist wants to advertise a Valentine’s Day special on Twitter. They’d prefer to show their ad to flower enthusiasts who frequent their website or subscribe to their newsletter. To get the special offer to those people who are also on Twitter, the shop may share with us a scrambled, unreadable email address (a hash) or browser-related information (a browser cookie ID). We can then match that information to accounts in order to show them a Promoted Tweet with the Valentine’s Day deal. This is how most other companies handle this practice, and we don’t give advertisers any additional user information.”

This means that users will be seeing more relevant and welcome ads. For business owners who use Twitter for their social media marketing, this means that their promotional materials will be distributed to better potential customers which increases the chance of capturing leads and increasing ROI.


Twinkie announces its much-awaited return via social media

Twinkie Social MediaTwinkie, the popular American snack cake, has announced its comeback via social media!

Last year, the product’s parent company—Hostess Brands—fell into financial turmoil. The company was forced to shut down all operations and sell its assets. Early this year, however, Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co. acquired the Twinkie brand. And the new owner proceeded to announce the tasty treat’s comeback on Facebook.

New management is using a multi-platform approach to engage with Twinkie fans. Low-cost marketing alternatives, like social media, are also being used to create buzz for the cake’s much-awaited return. The brand has established a strong presence in numerous social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Vine.

An estimated 50-million Twinkies are going to be released in stores across the United States in the first two weeks of their return.

Social media celebrity endorsements present challenges in India

Social Media IndiaIn India, celebrities and their endorsement agreements include social media platforms—including Facebook, Twitter and other sites.

The arrangement isn’t new to the country. Indian celebrities have been posting sponsored messages for the past few years. But, it begs the question: which celebrities are the most influential?

In the World Wide Web, thousands of followers and fans can be purchased for as low as $3. So, influence shouldn’t be simply based on the amount of followers and fans—but it obviously will be a factor in the long run.

Another issue is transparency. Typically, sponsored messages need to be tagged with appropriate disclosures. Since Twitter only allows 140 characters or less, it would be difficult to post a disclosure along with the endorsed message.

In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission requires celebrities and online marketers to disclose sponsored messages and endorsement posts.

Most recently, Twitter has partnered with Komli Media to offer promoted tweets in India. The partnership offers numerous advertising options.

Girls Guns & Glory (GGG) is the brainchild of Lonesome Day recording artist Ward Hayden. Hayden formed GGG in the Winter of 2005 and within 2 weeks of the groups formation they entered Noise in the Attic Studios to begin a prolific period of recording. Releasing 3 critically acclaimed full-length albums in many years (Fireworks & Alcohol – 2006; Pretty Little Wrecking Ball – 2007; Inverted Valentine – 2008). Hayden’s original compositions conjure the palpable ache of a crushed heart; they touch on themes of love lost and hope found, and their words alone could be published in anthologies of poetry.

GGG is now an internationally touring band, named Independent Artist of the Year at the French Country Music Awards, and two-time winner of both the Roots Act of Year (Boston Phoenix Awards) and Americana Act of the Year (Boston Music Awards). GGG is also the only band of its genre to ever take home the top honors of Act of the Year (Boston Music Awards) and to win the legendary WBCN Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble.

Judith Murray Performs at the Press RoomGet ready for a night of smooth tunes as jazz crooner Judith Murray takes center stage at the Press Room on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 8:00 in the evening onwards.

Judith sings music that is classy, sultry, and swinging! Best known for her take on the jazz standards of the 1930s’, 40s’ and 50’s genre, ala Billie Holiday, she has been accused of being a consummate professional when it comes to getting inside the lyrics of a song.

Admission to the show is free of charge but it is strictly a 21 and over event.

This show is presented by the Press Room, New Hampton’s premier life music source. Opened in 1976 by Jay Smith with an emphasis on live jazz and folk music, the pub became a second living room for many of its patrons. Since 1995 new owner Jay Gardner has continued to offer live music seven nights a week while expanding the entertainment to include blues, bluegrass, rockabilly, and even Latin jazz.

Not My Life to be screened at The Music Hall

Not My LifeNot My Life, a film that documents the dehumanizing practices of human trafficking on a global scale, will be featured in The Music Hall’s Historic Theater later this month.

Presented by The NH Commission to Combat Human Trafficking, World Affairs Council of NH, and Freedom Café, the film was shot in five continents across a number of countries. It takes a closer look at what is considered as modern slavery.

Panelists in attendance include Erin Albright, Anti-Trafficking Coordinator at the International Institute of New England, and Sandra Matheson, the Director of the Attorney General’s State Office of Victim/Witness Assistance.

Chris Klaxton Performs at the Press RoomMusician extraordinaire Chris Klaxton and his quintet band will be taking center stage at the Press Room on July 21, 2013 from 6:00 in the evening onwards.

As a freelance trumpet player, pianist, and educator, Chris Klaxton has found himself part of a world class musical community spanning from jazz to bluegrass/country, hip hop, reggae, indie rock, and classical music. As pianist and trumpeter for New England hip hop group, The Press Project, Klaxton has opened for Soulive, Boyz II Men, George Clinton, and was invited to perform at the 2008 Bonnaroo Music Festival.

Klaxton is a current member of critically acclaimed NH based Tan Vampires, contributing trumpet, guitar, and percussion and also appears regularly as trumpeter and keyboardist with Moe Pope, Boston EMCEE and recently voted “Hip Hop Artist of the Year” (2012 Boston Music Awards).

As a composer, Chris Klaxton’s work is featured in his self-led ensembles as well as In Ears and Eyes, an experimental performing / visual art project with artist Roger Goldenberg.

Drake outpaces Kanye West and Jay-Z in the world of social media

Drake in Social MediaIn the past year, Drake has outpaced Kanye West and Jay-Z in terms of generating social media buzz.

With Kanye West and Jay-Z releasing new albums, many said that the two would be the ones slugging it out for the throne of hip-hop and rap. However, the two are distant runner-ups to Drake in the world of social media.

Based on a study from Networked Insights, Drake scored more social conversations than Kanye West and Jay-Z across Twitter, Facebook, blogs, and forums.

According to ranking, the six rappers dominating social media are: Drake, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Jay-Z, and 2Chainz.

Networked Insights also analyzed more than 50-million social media conversations relating to Magna Carta and Yeezus. The former generated 5.7-million conversations leading up to its release, while the latter had 4.2-million.

British Arrows Awards at the Historic Theater

British Arrows AwardsThe Historic Theater is inviting everyone to catch the screening of the British Arrows Awards happening on Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 7:30 in the evening onwards.

British Arrows is the new name for the British Television Advertising Awards which began in 1976 to recognize and reward the best television and cinema commercials made by British advertising agencies and production companies. The event attracts an entry of almost a thousand commercials, and a similar number of people attend the presentation of awards each March.
