MLB All-Star Game generates television and social media frenzy

During the 83rd MLB All-Star Game, the National League blew out the American League 8-0 as the world of television and social media closely watched.

The game generated more than 800,000 related comments across Twitter and Facebook, marking a 257% increase compared to last year’s star-studded baseball contest.

On television, its broadcaster—Fox—outperformed its closest prime-time competitor by almost 50 percent, besting last year’s telecast in the process.

The game was a big television success in St. Louis and Detroit.

In the past months, social media has strengthened its integration to sports. Most recently, the NBA hosted its first social media awards, representing how much the platform has grown in the sport.
