In the Australian island of Tasmania, experts believe that social media is the key to revitalizing the declining tourism industry.
In the last three years, visitors to Tasmania have dropped by 26 percent.
According to the Tasmanian Tourism Conference, cheap overseas travel and high Australian dollar rates are luring tourists away from the so called “Island of Inspiration.”
To curtail the drops in visitors, experts are advising that the island adapt new travel trends to their marketing strategies.
Luke Martin of the Tourism Industry Council says that social media sites and smartphone apps can give the island opportunities to invite more youthful demographics.
Martin also recommended hosting winter activities to get visitors throughout the year.
